Snap on/Edge Pac Unit communications set up

I believe Snap on/Edge Diagnostics released a software update for the PAC unit that will allow it to download screen captures to software programs, such as the AES Wave! To obtain this update you will need to contact your PAC salesperson or Snapon/Edge Diagnostics.

Once you have this update for the scope, the AES Wave! also needs to be updated so it will receive and display the screen dump from the Edge PAC unit. This update only requires a few changes to the AESWAVE.INI file as described below:

Open the file
C:\WINDOWS\AESWAVE.INI

Add this section (copy and paste it) to the file below the [Screen Flen] section:

[PAC]
Xoffset=12
Yoffset=-5
ViewX1=4000
ViewY1=5000
ViewX=60
ViewY=60
AutoLF=0
AutoCR=0

Find the section [Screen Flen] and delete it and replace it with the following

[Screen Flen]
NumOfItems=10
10=4000,MST
9=4800,TEK2
8=5000,TEK1
7=7000,FLK
6=8000,VTG
5=9000,LS2
4=9875,PAC
3=12000,OTC
2=14500,123
1=16000,CNS

Now, the AES Wave should receive and display screen dumps from the Edge PAC unit.

But one more thing, after you get the screen image to the wave you will need to go to IMAGE | ROTATE a few times to orient the image correctly.

Tek THS710 communications set up
(posted October 1999)

Use the same settings as those listed below for the THS720. However, rather than selecting the TIFF-Tag Image File Format you should select the BMP (microsoft windows Bitmap) format.

Thanks to John Thornton (AES Wave! user since 9/99) in Des Plaines, IL for clearing this up!

  • Press "Utility" Button,
  • Press the arrow marked, System Config again.
  • Select "Hard Copy" and set as follows:
    Layout = Portrait
    Format ,
  • press "Next Page" key, it will bring up a second series of options.
  • Select TIFF-Tag Image File Format
    For the THS710 select BMP (microsoft windows Bitmap)
  • Press "OK-Select Format" button and then "Clear Menu"
    button.
  • Pressing "Hard Copy" button while in AES Wave program will transfer the data.

It works great!

Authorization
New Area Code for AES: 559-292-7851
The License / Authorization screen may list the phone number as 209-292-7851.   However, our new area code is now in effect.  Our new area code is 559-292-7851.

Reauthorization
If you reinstall the AES Wave! you may also need to re-authorize the Wave!   even though it is inconvenient it is not unusual.   Just call 559-292-7851 and we will authorize the program again.

Printing all Fields on Print outs
When you save a record into an AES Wave! database there are 9 fields plus the Date and Memo fields that you can input a value into.  You may have noticed that 4 of these fields are not included on the printed page, these are: Test Point, Test Cond, Symptom, and General ID. (These are the default names, you may have customized the names of these fields when creating your database with the database wizard.)

To enable your program to print the "missing" fields you will need to make changes to the INI file as instructed below.

1. Open the AES Wave
2. Locate and open this file: c:\windows\aeswave.ini
3. Locate the section titled: PAGE
4. Scroll to the bottom of this section and add the following line: BCaption=-1
5. Make sure to type it in exactly as listed above and Be certain there is a blank line separating this text from the section below it.
6. Save the file and exit the editor.
7. Print or Print Preview your records from the AES Wave! and you will see the "missing" fields are now included on the printed page.

Uploading from the AES Wave! to the iATN File Library
The quickest way to perform this procedure is to open the AES Wave! and locate the record you want to upload.

Selecting FilenameClick on the image to the right  to see a screen capture from the AES Wave! with the filename highlighted.  In this example, the image for Record #14 has a file name of AESVAN14.JPG. (Click to enlarge the image and then click BACK on your browser's toolbar to return to this page). Click here for instructions for converting file to JPG or GIF.

Select the filename by clicking on it as shown in the image above, then copy it using EDIT / COPY or the keyboard command CTL C.   This also copies the path for the file.  In this example the path is: C:\AESWAVE\DATABASE\AESVAN14.JPG.

The filename can now be pasted into Step 1 of the iATN Upload screen (see below).  Click your mouse inside the blank fieldbox and use EDIT / PASTE or the keyboard command CTL V to insert the filename and path into the fieldbox.

Step 1 of iATN File Upload

After clicking the Browse buttonAfter pasting the path and clicking the BROWSE button on Step 1 of the iATN File Upload Page your screen will look like the sample to the right. (Click to enlarge the images and then click BACK on your browser's toolbar to return to this page).

After selecting the filenameIf you receive an ERROR message after clicking on the OPEN button then I suggest that you locate your image file and click on it once (see image to the right) and then click the OPEN button again.  This should overcome the problem.

Continue with the remaining 3 steps on the File Upload Page of the iATN site to complete the upload and watch your image from the AES Wave! "magically appear" on the screen.

The results of my upload are saved in my iATN File Library:
ID#: Image2982
Brief Description: Image from AES Wave! by Carlos.
Send me a message if you can tell me how to link to this upload

Troubleshooting the iATN file upload process:
1. The iATN File Library is only accepting these two file types: JPG or GIF. Click here for instructions for converting images in the AES Wave! to JPG or GIF files.

2. The iATN File Library will only accept files that are 50 KB or less.
Do the following to determine if your file is small enough:

-- Open the Windows Explorer and click on TOOLS / FIND / FILES OR FOLDERS.
-- Paste the filename that you copied from the AES Wave! into the NAMED field of the Find window.
-- Click on the FIND NOW button.
-- The size of the file should be listed when the file is found.

3. If you have trouble uploading images even though your file is 50KB or smaller and the format is correct (JGP or GIF) then you should try the following:
-- Select a second image file from the AES Wave! to upload. If this image loads then try your first image again.  If the second image does not load then. . . select an image using the BROWSE button in Step 1 of the iATN File Upload screen to locate a third image on your computer that is not saved within the AES Wave! If this third image loads then try your first image again.  If the third image does not load then. . . your internet connection, browser or something else is not operating correctly. At this time I have no other ideas on what to do, send me an e-mail or call me: 559-292-7851 if you continue to have troubles with the upload.

Converting images in the AES Wave! to JPG or GIF files
The AES Wave saves and opens many types of files including DGB and PRN (these are the extensions used).  To convert these files into GIF or JPG files, do the following:

Selecting Filename1. Select the filename as illustrated in the image to the right. Click on the image to see a screen capture from the AES Wave! with the filename highlighted.  In this example, the image for Record #14 has a file name of AESVAN14.JPG. (Click to enlarge the image and then click BACK on your browser's toolbar to return to this page).
2. Copy the filename using EDIT / COPY or the keyboard command CTL C.   This also copies the path for the file.  In this example the path is: C:\AESWAVE\DATABASE\AESVAN14.JPG.
3. Select FILE / OPEN and paste the filename into the File Name field and press ENTER.  This will open the image into a separate window within the AES Wave! 4. Select FILE / SAVE AS and type in a new name for your image using GIF or JPG as the extension (GIF is ideal for two color line drawings; JPG is best for pictures).
5. Be sure to remember the name and path of the file you just saved so you can find it again when you want to upload it to the iATN File Library.
6. NOTE: Create a new folder inside the AESWAVE folder to save all your "converted" images.
