Description

This probe allows for accurate triggering of scope display from spark plug wire signals. You can organize your display by triggering from #1 plug wire. It can be used in an external trigger jack or via a signal channel.

This is the second generation trigger pickup from AES, now with improved circuitry. We have pickups available for digital scopes as well as analog scopes.

Available for all popular scopes:

Application

Use the AES Trigger Pickup to sync the display of an ignition signal. For example, many crankshaft sensors have cylinder ID signals.

It can be difficult if not impossible to stabilize this signal. Since it is in sync with the plug signals, use the trigger pickup on plug #1 to stabilize.

Installation:
Install the AES Trigger Pickup into the desired channel of your scope (see below). Install the Trigger to the desired spark plug with the indicator marks towards the plug.

Scope Adjustment:
For scopes with External Trigger Jack -- Set LEVEL to at least 2 volts. Set SCOPE to positive. Set SOURCE to external.
For the Fluke 97 -- set the LEVEL to 2 volts.
For the LS-2000 -- install this lead into channel #1.
For scopes without External Trigger Jack -- Even with scopes that have an external jack, it is a good idea to use a regular channel as the trigger source. This helps to insure accuracy since you can see the signal and visually set the trigger level. Set VOLT/DIV to 2. Start with a TIME/DIV of 5 mS and adjust as needed. Make sure the SOURCE for the trigger is set to the channel this lead is connected to. Set SLOPE to positive and set the LEVEL to at least 2 volts, or as needed.
