The Coil-on-plug (COP) and signal probe from Pico Technology is the fastest way you can check coil–on–plug ignition coils and spark plugs.

- Find misfires fast
- Displays scope patterns of the secondary, faster than scoping the primary
- Works on all automotive scopes capable of displaying ignition patterns
- Can also be used to investigate injectors and other inductive actuators
- Flexible design allows for easier access to hard-to-reach components
- No batteries required

Like distributors, spark plug wires are starting to disappear from cars. With the new COP ignition systems the ignition coils are connected directly to the spark plugs — eliminating the need for the spark plug wires. With no high–voltage spark wires, a COP probe is required to be able to pick up the secondary ignition waveform.

Along with testing COP systems, the Coil-on-plug and signal probe can also be used to obtain a secondary ignition waveform on conventional ignition systems.

To aquire a secondary signal with the Pico COP simply press the probe against the coil. The Pico COP does not require back–probing, special adapters, foil strips, or batteries.

Coil construction can prevent capturing a waveform with any paddle probe. 4-wire and some 3-wire coils will not produce usable waveforms.

Test Leads
The Pico COP probe can be used with practically any oscilloscope. To connect the Pico COP to your scope you need the appropriate test lead:
- for scopes with BNC inputs (Pico, OTC, Interro)
- for scopes with Banana inputs (Snap-on, UEI)

Using the Pico COP probe with the Snap-on VERUS Edge
At timestamp 9:43,ScannerDanner uses the Pico COP probe to identify cylinders (green spike) during a relative compression test. An adapter with a ground such as the Banana Coupler Lead for COP Probes (AES# 03-78-COP-bp) must be used to connect the Pico COP's bnc to the Snap-on scope's banana jacks. It also includes a 3-foot pigtail with large gator for connection to a vehicle ground.
