Overview of Java (interactive) features used in Flatrater Diagnostics CD

One of the most unique features of the Flatrater Diagnostics CD is its use of interactive Java applets to display graph and freeze frame data captured from a Tech 2. These features make this collection of case studies much more than a reading assignment and are indispensible to helping you improve your critical thinking skills, your knowledge of GM vehicles and help you improve your analysis of scan data.

This is a typical case study and uses 1 of the 6 different Java applets listed below.

Data Plotter (sample screen)

To change the PID displayed by a particular trace, press the PREV or NEXT click on the drop down list box to select another PID. Scroll through the frames by clicking anywhere inside the graphing area with your mouse or click on the << >> arrows in the lower right corner.

Freeze Frame and Failure Record (sample screen)

Freeze frame and failure records will usually be displayed in the screen shown here.

To view the various failure records and the freeze frame information, simply click on the buttons at the bottom of the screen. "FR" is an abbreviation for "failure record". The currently selected record will have the button highlighted in yellow and the title bar will display the code and code description. The data for the selected freeze frame or failure record will be displayed in the center of the screen.

The order that the codes set can be determined by the way the failure records are listed. The higher the failure record button number the earlier the DTC failed. In the above example, clicking on the button labeled 'FR 2' will display the FIRST DTC that failed.

Text Data Plotter (sample screen)
