LIN Bus Networks are widely used in modern vehicles for charging systems, fuel pumps, steering wheel controls, and more. While wiring faults are common, modules can be expensive to replace unnecessarily which means techs need to accurately diagnose the sources of LIN Bus problems.
This network diagnostics class provides a plan to identify & track down faults within LIN Bus systems using a combination of diagnostic tools, service information, and knowledge of the LIN Bus protocols.
The main goals of this class are:
1. Understanding how LIN Bus operates.
2. Being able to ID good LIN Bus activity vs bad LIN Bus activity.
3. Diagnosing several examples of bad LIN Bus systems.
Topics Covered:
• LIN Bus Operation
• Message structure
• How modules communicate
• Understanding codes, service information & wiring diagrams
• What known good looks like
• Examples of bad module communications
• Testing with diagnostic tools
• What to expect with a scope & multimeter
• Isolating problem modules
• How to track down wiring issues
