Review of the ASE L3 Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist Test
Craig Van Batenburg took the ASE L3 Hybrid Test and provides us with his feedback.
My head hurts. 2:06 minutes of test taking time. 7,560 seconds of trying to understand the question and then what answer would fit.
I signed an agreements to not divulge the test questions and not to use a retrieval system (what do you call your brain?) and I don't want to ruin your fun! No cheating.
So here is what I can say. If you are weak in the following areas get more training;
1. How the Planetary Gear sets work in a Prius and Volt
2. Electrical circuits, reading wiring diagrams and voltage drop.
3. Insulation testers, meg ohm meters and milli-ohm meters
4. Resolver function and sensor testing
5. The SMR systems (system main relays) that power up and connect the HV battery
6. PM motor construction stressing the stator construction
95 questions. I flagged about 15 to go back to and some were more clear after all the questions were answered, likely because I started to see where they (the many minds that collectively put this together) were heading. I feel like I passed but will wait to see the resulted later on.
My congratulations to ASE and those that worked to get this done.
If you feel like any of the above areas are still open for you to learn more drop me a line.
Craig has recorded a video study guide of the L3 test, available here, (Login required).
