This diagnostic journey begins with a 2010 Dodge Caravan with a U0100 code – Lost Communication with ECM/PCM; a code that involves a no-communication issue with the powertrain control module. This vehicle would communicate with generic scan tools as well as the manufacturer’s scan tool, but it would not communicate with the state's emissions equipment, and therefore, failed the emissions test. Carlton Banks uses Pico Scope to determine where the fault may be hiding.

A 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser continually sets a P0172 (rich condition bank one). There are no other codes. When trying to start you must hold the throttle wide open or you will fuel foul the spark plugs. Once it finally starts running, the vehicle will stumble, yet, it can be driven if kept above about 1200 rpm. If you let it idle it will blubber down and try to stall. A tremendous amount of work by several shops has been performed on this vehicle to no avail. For this case study, Adam Robertson, instructor for the CARQUEST Technical Institute, Western United States, uses the QTT of outputs to develop a diagnostic direction that results in a surprising diagnosis.
Gary Goms received one of his most challenging e-mail requests from a shop foreman of a Honda dealership. This service manager had read a column he’d written on PCM diagnostics for ImportCar and was asking his opinion about why three PCMs would consecutively fail on a 2002 Honda Civic equipped with an automatic transmission with 137,000 miles on the odometer. Find out how Gary solved this diagnostic dilemma with the AES LineSPI.

Pulling a P0135 Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1) code means you’re dealing with a possible oxygen sensor heater element and/or associated components in this circuit. In this article, author Carlton Banks will attempt to provide a game plan for diagnosing a vehicle with this code using TechStream and a Pico scope.
Due to constant request, Morton’s Automotive Technical Services (MATS) will be conducting an all day Saturday Diagnostic Seminar on Saturday Nov 14th @ the Holiday Inn Express in Warminster, PA.
