Dual-fuel injection combines PFI and GDI on the same engine. These systems operate independently as well as simultaneously. Having two injectors per cylinder results in decreased emissions, improved mpg, more power, and more to diagnose for technicians.
John Thornton will describe his diagnostic approach & testing methods for dual-fuel injection with a focus on scan data and PCM controls.
There is a lot going on with dual-fuel injection; your task as a technician is to understand these systems and diagnose them. Understanding the scan data and having a plan for dual-fuel will allow you to effectively diagnose these systems.
Topics Covered
• Overview & how it works
• PCM control strategies
• New PID identification
• Custom groups for scan data
• Understand Port Fuel/Direct Fuel data under different operating conditions
• Known good baseline data
