Mongoose-Plus interfaces connect a Windows PC to supported OEM diagnostic and programming software, giving independent repair shops and technicians an affordable way to perform many of the same diagnostic, module programming, and reprogramming procedures available with factory equipment.

What is Mongoose-Plus?

Mongoose-Plus is a compact, professional-grade SAE J2534 pass-thru vehicle communication interface designed to work between a Windows computer and supported OEM software.

Depending on the selected Mongoose-Plus model and the capabilities of the manufacturer's software, technicians can perform functions such as:

• OE-level vehicle diagnostics

• ECU and module reprogramming

• Emissions-related programming

• Non-emissions module programming

• Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes

• View live vehicle data

• Perform supported bi-directional functions

• Module setup and initialization procedures

• Key and immobilizer functions where supported

Mongoose-Plus interfaces are application-specific. They should not be treated as one universal interface with identical capabilities across every vehicle manufacturer.

Toyota / Lexus / Scion: Designed for use with Toyota Techstream for supported Toyota, Lexus, and Scion diagnostics and programming.

Honda / Acura: Designed for use with Honda iHDS for supported Honda and Acura diagnostics and programming.

Ford / Lincoln: Designed for use with supported Ford J2534 diagnostic and programming software, including JFDS/FDRS applications where applicable.

GM: Designed for supported GM OE diagnostic and programming applications, including GDS2 and Tech2Win applications where applicable.

Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram / Fiat: Designed for supported Stellantis/FCA applications, including wiTECH 2.0 and J2534 Legacy applications where applicable.

Nissan / Infiniti: Designed for supported Nissan OE software, including CONSULT III Plus R2R and NERS J2534 applications where applicable.

Volkswagen / Audi: Designed for supported VW/Audi ODIS diagnostic and programming applications.

ISO/CAN: A J2534 interface supporting CAN and ISO9141/KWP2000 communications. The Mongoose-Plus ISO/CAN is also used with supported Pico Technology NVH applications to obtain vehicle data such as engine RPM and vehicle speed for Pico Diagnostics NVH testing.

Wired or Bluetooth Models?

Several Mongoose-Plus applications are available in both standard USB and Bluetooth versions. Standard models connect directly to the Windows PC through USB. Bluetooth-equipped versions add wireless communication between the computer and Mongoose-Plus, giving the technician more freedom to move around the vehicle while performing supported diagnostic procedures.

The detachable USB cable also makes field replacement simple if the cable becomes damaged or worn.

J2534 Programming Without Buying a Factory VCI

SAE J2534 was developed to provide standardized communication between vehicle manufacturers' programming software and compatible pass-thru devices.

Instead of purchasing a separate factory VCI for every manufacturer you service, a compatible J2534 interface can provide a more economical path to OEM software and programming capabilities.

What Else Do I Need?

A Mongoose-Plus interface is only one part of an OE diagnostic or programming setup. The interface does not include the vehicle manufacturer's diagnostic software or software subscription.

Depending on the manufacturer and procedure, you may also need:

• A compatible Windows PC

• Reliable high-speed internet access

• The appropriate OEM diagnostic or programming software

• An active OEM software subscription

• A programming-grade battery maintainer/power supply

• NASTF Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) credentials for certain security-related procedures

• Any additional manufacturer-specific accounts or credentials required by the OEM

Always verify the current requirements of the vehicle manufacturer before beginning programming.

Keys and Immobilizer Functions

Certain Mongoose-Plus and OEM software combinations can be used for supported key, immobilizer, and security-related procedures.

These functions are controlled by the vehicle manufacturer and may require NASTF VSP credentials or other OEM authorization. Availability varies by manufacturer, vehicle, model year, and software subscription.
