Use the AES Primary Ignition Lead with the Vantage PRO, MODIS, and VERUS to see the primary ignition spikes that rise higher than 200 volts while maintaining the option to zoom in on essential details such as the dwell, burn time and coil oscillations.

These Snap-on scopes have a maximum displayable voltage of 200 volts, as you know, many primary ignition signals rise over 400 volts!

By attenuating the ignition signal by a factor of 10, the AES Primary Ignition Lead converts a 400 volt signal to 40 volts, this allows the scope to display the complete primary ignition spike.  Since the AES Primary Ignition Lead is tuned specifically for use with these Snap-on scopes essential details such as the dwell, burn time, and coil oscillations are still visible and zoomable.

The AES Primary Ignition Lead lets your Snap-on scope display the complete primary ignition signal giving you the ability to control how the signal is displayed even while scoping other signals when using multiple channels.

Scope Setup
Instructions for setting each scope to view the ignition spike and to zoom in on the details are included with the test lead.

Test Lead Configuration
The AES Primary Ignition Lead is 10-ft long.

Connection to scope: The test lead is configured with two banana plugs: one for the signal channel and one for the ground.  The ground banana plug is stackable allowing other channels to use the ground when using multiple channels.

Connection to vehicle: The test lead uses shrouded banana plugs: one for the signal and one for the ground connection. The shrouded banana plugs accept a wide assortment of pin-probes, piercing probes and gators.

Characteristics of the AES Primary Ignition Lead for Lead for Snap-on Scopes
(AES# 01-18-snap):
Attentuation:   10:1 (converts a 400 volts signal to 40 volts)
Connector at Scope:   Signal: Stackable, Shrouded Banana Plugs Yellow
  Ground:
Stackable, Shrouded Banana Plugs Black
Cable:   ST3, shielded
Color:   Yellow
Length:   10-ft (ask about custom lengths)
Connector(s) at vehicle:   Signal: Stackable, Shrouded 4mm Banana Plugs Yellow
  Ground:
Stackable, Shrouded 4mm Banana Plugs Black

* Most scopes use a 1000:1 attentuation. 1V displayed on your scope represents 1000V in the secondary.

Stacking Grounds

The AES Primary Ignition Probe allows the grounds to be stacked, or piggy back, when using another test lead.

Peak-to-Peak Full View

The AES Primary Ignition Lead will capture and display the complete peak to peak voltage of the primary signal.

Any lack of detail is a function of the scope settings and not the test lead.

In this example, the voltage setting is 5 volts; however, since this test lead functions as a 10:1 attenuator, the 5 volts is equal to 50 volts.

Within this voltage range you can shrink the primary signal down more, allowing the clean stacking of other waveforms. This allows you to organize the screen as you see fit.

Zoom in for Detail and Comparison

The AES Primary Ignition Lead allows you to zoom the signal for an accurate and detailed view of the primary signal.

This screen shows two primary signals captured by the Snap-on Vantage with a scale of 2 volts/div.

GREEN: captured using using regular 1:1 test leads.
Disavantage of 1:1 leads: You get detail but you cannot see the peaks which go off the screen and turns the waveform white.

YELLOW: captured using the the AES Primary Ignition Lead.
Advantage: this lead is capable of accurately displaying the primary signal in detail just like a 1:1 lead does.

However, when you need to see the big picture you only need to change your voltage settings.
