Push Start Ignition is a common feature on today’s vehicles. This class will assist technicians in developing a diagnostic routine for these systems and explain how to handle the common complaint of "I press the button and nothing happens."
These systems can be divided into three broad categories:
- Immobilizer
- Steering Lock
- ACC/Run/Crank Relay Control.
Gain an understanding of how these systems work, the terminology that comes with them, and most importantly understand the scan data needed to diagnose them.
Topics Covered:
• Module Communication Issues
• Immobilizer Issues
• Steering Lock Issues (if present)
• Hardware Issues (antennas, oscillators, key, receiver)
• Wiring Issues
• Differentiate between no ignition and no crank
• An inexpensive tool to check for low frequency and radio frequency wireless transmissions.
Multiple case studies of broken vehicles will be presented including: 2011 Nissan Maxima, 2012, Toyota Camry, 2018 Ford Edge, 2006 VW Passat and a 2015 Ford Mustang.
